The House Photographer’s photos go national! Recently I had the privilege of shooting a house in Enfield that has been Elizabeth’s home for 59 years! Little did either of us know what would be the outcome and the mass hysteria that would follow.

The house was purchased by Elizabeth’s parents in the 50’s from the original owner from when it was built in the 30’s. A part from the dining room french doors, all the windows and original features remained untouched from new. As the decor had not changed since the mid 70’s this property was a time capsule.

The shoot had to capture the original features in a sympathetic way that would inspire viewers. At the same time I had to ensure that the strong Art Deco feel was present and felt. Sadly, due to Elizabeth’s mother’s illness and subsequent passing some areas had fallen into disrepair. So when shooting I had to try and avoid certain areas but in an ethical way. My shoot was limited to only a few of the rooms. This was due to the build up of nearly 60 years worth of possessions which dictated our movements.

The day of the shoot was great from a weather point of view, plenty of natural light and blue skies. So my external shots had as summer feel to them and illuminated the front well.

I shot the rooms as best I could making sure to capture as many features as possible. Minimal amounts of staging was required as Elizabeth is a photographer herself and already had a great understanding.

Although the house is a bright home due to the sun trap window design, I still used a second flash unit to add a bit of fill light. As you can see from the images this house is packed full of original features and I wanted to show them all.

This is quite a generous property where 2 of the 3 bedrooms are double sized. It is important to make sure that I chose the correct angles so that the photos reflected it’s true size.

When the property photography was completed I then finished off by creating a nice floor plan. The time onsite was a little under 2 hours mainly due to getting the right angles to project the house’s natural beauty.

Shortly after the property went live on Rightmove and Zoopla a lifestyle company called WowHaus picked it up. They then promoted it on their site and through social media and that was when the flood gates opened. With over 300 page likes on WowHaus in a short period of time no less than 6 national papers picked up the story. Some through their online site such as the Evening Standard and MailOnline. Some through the papers such as the Daily Express as seen to the right (page 3 16/8/17).

With all this momentum radio stations such as Talk London and LBC ran the story also. Then the BBC called and wanted to run the story on the news! Charlotte Franks popped down and interviewed both Elizabeth and Russell Quirk the CEO of eMoov who are marketing the property.

Before Russell’s interview with the BBC I asked him if he had ever witnessed this type of frenzied media activity in all his years as a top estate agent. He just smiled and said never!
